What's it like to work in New York?

Google New York is the place to be for software engineers who want to push the limits on distributed systems, scale and performance. Here, we work on projects of massive scale, develop and build great systems, and produce quick and accurate solutions to challenging problems. At all times, we match projects with our employees' background and interests. Google engineers are experts in C++, Java, AJAX and HTML and focus on these key areas:

Search and advertising quality

We parse user queries, select and rank matching pages, summarize results for the user, and match ads to queries and Web pages. We immerse ourselves in various technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, and information retrieval and extraction.

Web applications

We work on the products our users, advertisers and publishers use. These include AdWords, AdSense, Google Maps, Google Checkout, Local, Google Finance, Docs & Spreadsheets, Blog Search, My Search History, Q&A and Music.

Infrastructure and application backends

We manage the components and code of the Google infrastructure such as the Google File System, Big Table and MapReduce. We also focus on distributed computing, large-scale infrastructure and performance tuning.

Research

We provide novel and scalable solutions to a variety of computational problems, while also experimenting with new search techniques every day. Online advertising

We acquired DoubleClick allowing us to offer industry-leading ad serving and ad management products. We'll be able to better target, serve and analyze all online ads while delivering relevant and quality experiences to consumers.
